Metaphysical Neptune

planet-neptune-symbolNEPTUNE has special meaning for me.  I was running through some texts on symbolism, runes, astrology, etc. looking for something which resonated with me on a deeper level (to form a brotherhood with the Phoenix I had already made permanent).  I was seeking a symbol of my awakened philosophies- something that might encapsulate aspects of myself which I felt truly connected with and had completely integrated.  I came upon the symbol for Neptune.

I had mistakenly assumed it was only to be interpreted in the greek mythological sense.  I was wrong.  Upon further research, I found that the symbol most definitely fit my presence.

There are layers of meaning entwined in this symbol, some of which are:

  • Dreams
  • Intuition
  • Psychic ability
  • Invention
  • Magic
  • Perception
  • Psychology
  • Philosophy
  • Esotericism
  • Occult
  • Imagination
  • Mysticism
  • Emotion
  • Shadow/hidden side of life
  • Water

neptune-glyphIn looking a bit deeper into its symbolism, there is also the glyph interpretation/meaning:

The cross at the lower end of the symbol is symbolic of matter, the root of things – the crux of nature. That cross is a stabilizer amongst the potentially erratic energies Neptune can represent.

The three pronged pitchfork portion on top of the Neptune symbol represents a trident, commonly thought to represent Neptune, the god of the waters (Poseidon in Greek if you prefer).

Not so commonly known is the trident of the Neptune symbol also represents the threefold essences of nature. Empirically speaking this threefold essence is comprised of: Becoming, Being, Passing away.

Other threefold meanings offered by the Neptune symbol trident include:

  • Birth, Life, Death
  • Mind, Body, Spirit
  • Past, Present, Future

These aspects of the Neptune symbol give us a glimpse at how diverse and expansive this energy is.

I have provided a few links below which delve much deeper into the subject of Neptune (greek mythology, astrological meanings, behavioral tendencies/patterns, etc.).  I invite you to take a moment, read further and broaden your spectrum.
